The article is devoted to identifying the pedagogical potential of lesson structuring technology in geography education for the development of students’ functional literacy. In the modern educational system, functional literacy is characterized by learners’ ability to effectively apply acquired knowledge in everyday life, as well as in socio-economic and professional contexts. In this regard, geography plays a significant role in fostering functional literacy by providing an integrated understanding of natural, social, and economic processes.
The study examines contemporary technologies for structuring geography lessons. In particular, it proposes systematic organization of lesson stages, including goal setting, creation of problem-based situations, information analysis, practical application, and reflection. Lesson structuring technology contributes to the development of critical thinking, spatial analysis skills, and the ability to work with maps and statistical data.
Furthermore, the research identifies methodological mechanisms for developing key components of functional literacy—informational, communicative, social, and research competencies—within geography lessons. The research findings are intended for use in geography teachers’ professional practice, curriculum improvement, and enhancement of the overall quality of the educational process.
