The article touches upon the problem of developing educational tasks for the formation and development of functional literacy of students in geography lessons. The concept of "functional literacy" is considered. Based on the analysis of scientific and methodological literature, the conditions of its fortification among students in educational institutions implementing educational programs of general secondary education are analyzed, priority types of functional literacy among students by means of an educational subject in geography are highlighted. The priority of using competence-based tasks is indicated. The main requirements for the development of tasks for the formation of functional literacy are determined: the choice of the type of functional literacy, taking into account the age and requirements of the curriculum of the subject, the connection with everyday life and production, the originality of the plot and presentation of the material (in the form of text, illustrations), interdisciplinary nature, ambiguity of the solution and / or lack of ready-made templates for solving the problem. As an example, a set of situational geography assignments in the 6th grade on the topic is given.: "The globe and the geographical map". A list of formed subject and universal competencies is given to the set of tasks and the planned results are prescribed, there are both personal, as well as meta-subject and subject. There are also recommendations for evaluation in the form of text and points. For each of the above tasks, the student can get a certain number of points, the maximum is determined by the highest mark of 10 points.
