Abstract

In the context of modern globalization and digitalization, the education sector is moving towards new formats and content. These changes are primarily due to the development of information and communication technologies (ICT). ICTs are becoming not only a technical tool, but also an important factor in the formation of a new culture of the educational process. As a result of the introduction of ICTs, teaching methods have changed, and the structure and content of the education system have been significantly updated. Today, leading countries — the United States, Great Britain, and the European Union — are moving toward full digitalization of the education system. In these countries, ICT is widely used as an important learning tool. As a result, the learning process becomes more accessible, personalized and interactive for students. This has a positive effect on the quality of education, the level of assimilation of educational material by students and their future professional competencies. The Kazakh education system does not remain aloof from this process and is actively introducing ICT. The 2021 Address by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the need for widespread implementation of innovative technologies in education. This paved the way for the systematic use of digital tools in educational institutions. However, it should be noted that there is still a lack of applied research on its effectiveness in individual subjects, especially geography. The content of geography is based on spatial data, natural phenomena and cartographic visualization. Therefore, the effective use of ICT in teaching geography allows for a deep understanding of the content of the educational material, as well as the development of analytical and critical thinking skills in students.
