Abstract

This review article provides a comprehensive analysis of how geographical research methods are taught in foreign schools. The primary aim of the study is to identify how international best practices and research-based approaches in geography contribute to the development of students’ cognitive, critical thinking, and practical skills. The article highlights specific examples from the educational systems of the United Kingdom, the United States, Finland, Singapore, Japan, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong, focusing on fieldwork, inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary projects, and GIS technologies. The findings reveal that these methods enhance student engagement, foster research competencies, and link academic content with real-life applications.
The article also emphasizes the importance of teacher training and adequate school infrastructure. This study offers both a theoretical and practical foundation for rethinking geography education in alignment with contemporary educational standards.
