Abstract

This article examines the possibilities of using the ArcGIS geographic information system in the educational process, particularly in teaching geography and cartography. The study describes the broad functional capabilities of ArcGIS, tools for processing and analyzing spatial data, as well as options for visualizing cartographic information. In addition, the role and significance of the software in the modern education system are highlighted.

The study demonstrates that using ArcGIS in the learning process contributes to the development of students’ skills in working with spatial data and enhances their ability to analyze geographic phenomena. Special attention is given to key program features such as working with vector and raster data, creating thematic maps, performing spatial analysis, and developing geographic models. These features also foster a culture of working with geographic information among students. The practical orientation of ArcGIS-based learning is emphasized as a critical factor for developing students’ critical thinking and analytical skills.

The article provides practical examples of integrating ArcGIS into educational courses, including cartographic projects such as administrative maps, thematic maps based on climatic data, and urban infrastructure analysis. Such approaches support the development of students’ analytical and research skills and help them cultivate spatial thinking.
